SCSC Honors Community Champions with Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal Awards
In a heartfelt celebration of community service and dedication, the Somali Canadian Society of Calgary proudly nominated and awarded deserving individuals for their outstanding contributions to the local community. This distinguished recognition, The Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal Award, serves as a testament to the recipients’ unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
The event, held at Somali Centre on Jan 26th 2023, was a resounding success, bringing together community members, leaders, and dignitaries to honor those who have gone above and beyond in service to the Somali Canadian community in Calgary.
The recipients, carefully selected for their exceptional work and selfless efforts, represent a diverse range of fields, including education, healthcare, community development, and advocacy. Each awardee has played a pivotal role in fostering unity, understanding, and empowerment within the community.
Among the honorees were Halima Mohamud, Abdullahi Abdi, Abdi Hersy, Mohamed Omar and Charles Odame-Ankrah recognized for their tireless efforts in promoting education and youth development and other fields.
During the ceremony, the Executive Director of the Somali Canadian Society of Calgary, Farah Ali, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the recipients, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and celebrating those who dedicate their time and energy to improving the quality of life for others.
