Somali Canadian Society of Calgary Welcomes the Holy Month of Ramadan

CALGARY, AB – As the crescent moon marks the beginning of the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, the Somali Canadian Society of Calgary (SCSC) is proud to welcome Ramadan—a season of profound reflection, spiritual growth, and community connection.

For Somali-Canadians and the broader Muslim community in Calgary, Ramadan represents a time to slow down, strengthen one’s relationship with God, and practice the values of discipline and gratitude.

Community Spirit Through Weekly Iftars

To celebrate the spirit of togetherness, the SCSC has announced it will be hosting Community Iftar Gatherings every Saturday throughout the month. These weekly dinners provide a space for families, seniors, and youth to break their fast together, sharing traditional meals and fostering a sense of belonging.

“Ramadan is more than just fasting; it is about the bonds we build and the support we give to one another,” the Society stated.

A Message from Leadership

Executive Director Farah Ali shared a heartfelt message of unity for the season:

“I wish all the Muslim communities in Calgary and across Canada a peaceful and blessed month. May this time bring harmony to your homes and hearts. Ramadan Mubarak to everyone observing.”

Join the Celebration

The SCSC invites all community members to participate in the upcoming Saturday gatherings. Whether you are looking to reconnect with old friends or meet new neighbors, the doors are open to celebrate the blessings of the month.

The Somali Canadian Society of Calgary extends its warmest wishes to all those fasting. May your prayers be answered and your month be filled with light.
